Over fifteen thousand wild birds died over the last 2 months in Ichkeul Park and Sijoumi lake, 2 regions popular for migratory birds. The phenomena was first discovered by local hunters and residents in the area and eventually got the attention of a team from the Tunis Veterinary research institute. Field work and observations, sampling, several tests, and autopsies eventuqlly discovered an ecological explanation for the phenomenon. According to Dr Ben Hmida, the Hot weather and lack of rain throughout September were ideal conditions for a Bacteria, called Clostridium Botulinum, to develop and produce a toxin. This bacteria is present around decomposing bodies and produces a deadly toxin which ended in birds' food supply, including worms. Then rain came to wash out the area a...

Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of wild nature for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas. While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. Some would say that the first official national park to be designated as such at its creation was Mackinac Island, legislated in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence. The largest national park in the world meeting the IUCN definition is the Northeast Greenland National Park, which was established in 1974. According to the IUCN, 6,555 national parks worldwide met its criteria in 2006. IUCN is still discussing the parameters of defining a national park. National parks are almost always open to visitors. Most national parks provide outdoor recreation and camping opportunities as well as classes designed to educate the public on the importance of conservation and the natural wonders of the land in which the national park is located. Зоопарк Фригия. Хаммамет Тунис. The Friguia Animal Park, Bouficha Tunisia. This is Tunisia's only wildlife park and is situated between Hammamet and Sousse. After spending almost three hours going round the park, we were treated to show of traditional music from Tunisia and the South of Africa as well as and dances by the Shaka Troup and North African dances. All of this was done whilst we were being served Tunisian cuisine under a large thatched African hut. This park has been open to the public since November 2000 and they state, "the purpose of the park is to preserve the species by looking after the development of the most threatened ones". This is not a safari park, but is a larger and more open type of zoo than those you would usually find in the city. You are still able to get up close to some of the animals whilst viewing them in a natural environment. The park of 36 hectares has been well laid out. There are ample rest stops, snack bars and souvenir shops in all the right places. Shady areas and seating allow visitors to take their time out of the sun and appreciate the animals and the picturesque views that the park present. There are over 400 animals and more than 60 species living in Friguia all free to move in large enclosures. We visited this park as an arranged excursion by our holiday rep during our one week stay in Tunisia. At every animal type there is a detailed board with information of the animal in both English and Arabic. Keeping small change with you is handy as for a dinar or two, you can get the keepers to get some close ups of the animals. Then rain came to wash out the area and stopped the toxin's release by the bacteria, which led to a decrease of the deaths to 10 per week. Nature regulated itself and was able readjust, however, in other cases it fails to so, and human intervention becomes necessary.

This is a list of the "mammal species recorded in Tunisia". These are the mammal species in Tunisia, of which 3 are critically endangered, 3 are endangered, 9 are vulnerable, and 2 are near-threatened. 1 of the species listed for Tunisia can no longer be found in the wild. The following tags are used to highlight each species' conservation status as assessed by the IUCN: Some species were assessed using an earlier set of criteria. Species assessed using this system have the following instead of Near Threatened and Least Concern categories: ---- Often called sengisi, the elephant shrews or jumping shrews are native to southern Africa. Their common English name derives from their elongated flexible snout and their resemblance to the true shrews. ---- Rodents make up the largest order of mammals, with over 40 percent of mammalian species. They have two incisors in the upper and lower jaw which grow continually and must be keep short by gnawing. Most rodents are small though the capybara can weigh up to 45 kg . ---- The lagomorphs comprise two families, Leporidae , and Ochotonidae . Though they can resemble rodents, and were classified as a superfamily in that order until the early 20th century, they have since been considered a separate order. They differ from rodents in a number of physical characteristics, such as having four incisors in the upper jaw rather than two. ---- The order Erinaceomorpha contains a single family, Erinaceidae, which comprise the hedgehogs and gymnures. The hedgehogs are easily recognised by their spines while gymnures look more like large rats. Wiz Science™ is "the" learning channel for children and all ages. The film features a range of genuine love stories of varying emotions and with different, sometimes surprising, outcomes. Anne, Dawn and Jean fell in love, at different times, with Greek men who all lived on the island of Symi. Maddison, Fleur and Ruth all fell in love with Turkish men. Dorothy, at the age of 77, married a 21-year-old Tunisian boy. Some of these marriages endure to this day. Others, for various reasons, didn’t last the course, but none of the women have any regrets. Curious bull dog attacked by American Porcupine. Poor Bulldog with 500 porcupine quills in his face. Animals vs porcupines always in danger of an attack. Its hot in Oklahoma this summer which is pushing a variety of wild animals to leave their natural habitat in search of water. One family's pet was unfortunate enough to encounter one of these wild animals. Bella, a bulldog, went face to face with a wild porcupine in families back yard pond. The bulldog took 500 porcupine quills to the face, neck, legs, chest, and feet. The family rushed Bella to the vet where they were able to begin removing the quills from the dog. It took over 2 hours fro the doctor and nurses to remove the majority of the needles and instructed the family to rub Bella's face and chest over the next few days as there may still be smaller pieces still stuck in their dog. Porcupines are the 3rd largest rodent next to the capybara and beaver. They move slowly and have few threats in its natural environment which would give it the need to flee quickly. Its natural predators include wolverines, coyotes, wolves, bears and cougars as well as humans. Due to its dangerous quills, the North American Porcupine is often avoided as prey and even regular predators may be harmed or killed by their quills. Most predators of the porcupine will attempt to stun or cause massive blood loss with an attack to the face. To avoid an encounter, porcupines often climb trees at the sign of danger, since most of their natural predators cannot pursue there. Their quills can be bought online and are used to make different types of jewelry or sometimes used to make clothing. And then of course in some countries especially in Southeast Asia, they EAT! porcupines as these rodents are considered a delicacy Subscribe to EpicToolTime for Epic Adam's Wildlife Blog http://tiny.cc/2byriw Facebook - http://goo.gl/esp7K Twitter -http://goo.gl/Yxybb Adam's Epic Wildlife Blog http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ Music - "East of Tunisia" by Kevin McLeod Royalty Free Music & Sound freesfx.co.uk Visual Images - Bella Bulldog & News Articles * http://tiny.cc/jdtniw (Daily Mail Article) * http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/bulldog-recovers-tangle-porcupine-leaves-stuck-500-quills-article-1.1129831 * http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4475605/Bella-Mae-the-bulldog-hit-by-500-spines-after-porcupine-clash.html Porcupine (0:24) http://hdnaturepictures.com/baby-porcupine-exotic-animals.html Porcupine Quills (0:26) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porcupine
